Exhibition - Gray Box Testing
僕はこれまで「目に見えない物をどう可視化するか」をコンセプトに作品制作を続けてまいりました。
今回の制作にあたって、テーマに掲げたハイクはハイキングの語源になった言葉です。そもそもハイキングは山だけでなく、大きな公園や林道を歩く事でもあります。ある意味明確な定義が無いとも言えます。
昨年から自分自身、登山をする事が増え、様々な山に登った際に多くの自然の恩恵を受けました。中でも今回の裏テーマである「苔」は本当に興奮しました。今回の苔をどの様に表現するかを今回はグリッターという光に呼応してヒカリを放つ素材を用いて表現しました。
僕自身、都会で育った事もあり幼少期に自然があまり身近でなかったので最近の過ごし方では自然を無意識に求めていました。
土、風、苔、木、草、自然が生み出す様々な力を目の当たりにし多く得たインプットをアウトプットする場が欲しいと考え今回の制作に至りました。これまで写真を用いたグラフィックデザインという技法から実際に様々なテクスチャーを用いてイメージを具現化する方法へと昇華し今日に起る様々な事象を表現しました。
僕が考える「HIKE」は過酷なものではなく別の感情で捉えています。そもそも何の為に山を登るのか今回はそういった思いを一つの箱に詰め込みました。
・Zine
この作品のコンセプトブックであり、リファレンスを集めた情報収集の本でもあります。山一つで様々な現象が起き、人々の生活にどれほどの影響を与えているのか、山の持つ「パワー」をこの一冊には1年間おおよそ12ヶ月の「12」ページで作成しました。
・写真
僕が撮り溜めた様々な山の写真や、古本から切り取りコラージュした作品などをあえて写真の印刷現像方法で作りました。どの山にも必ずある「苔」を再現したくてアクリル絵の具のグリッターで苔を表現しました。色のベースはYMOの音楽をコンセプトにレイアウトしています。僕は音が色に見えるので今回はYMOの作り出すテクノミュージックや機会音、を参考にして作品を作りました。
・バンダナ
これはよくハイキングする時に多くの登山者の方とすれ違う時に挨拶をするのですが、よくバンダナを巻いた登山者の方をみてそこからインスピレーションを受けて、いつもハイキングのテーマにしている「Hiking for Beer」をリフレクタープリントでプリントしました。
・Tシャツ
この二つの作品のコンセプトは「hiking Technical stuff」
山が持つ技術的な働きをコラージュしたギアで表現し、技術的な要素を火山の噴火までの動き方を印刷しました。働きと要素というキーワードを最も簡単にアウトプットできたのがTシャツでした。
・ポストカード
この55枚のポストカードは「55日間の山の景観」という作品で、これまで撮影してきた様々な山のアウトラインをプリントし、雨、雪、乾燥、火災、自然が引き起こす様々な現象をジェルネイル、アクリル、スプレー、グリッターなどを用いて表現しました。山のライン構成は3種類あり、複数枚並べると様々な尾根が完成します。
I have been creating artworks based on the concept of “how to visualise the invisible”.
The word ‘hike’, which I used as my theme for this production, is the origin of the word ‘hiking’. In the first place, hiking is not only in the mountains, but also in large parks and on forest trails. In a sense, it can be said that there is no clear definition.
Since last year, I myself have been doing more and more mountaineering and have received many natural benefits when climbing various mountains. I was particularly excited by the underlying theme of this year's exhibition, “moss”. I chose to express moss this time using glitter, a material that emits light and glints in response to light.
I myself grew up in the city and was not very close to nature in my childhood, so I unconsciously sought nature in my recent life.
I wanted a place where I could output the many inputs I have gained from witnessing the soil, wind, moss, trees, grass and the various forces that nature produces, which led me to create this work. I have sublimated the technique of graphic design using photographs to a method of realising images using various textures and expressing various phenomena that occur today.
I think of “HIKE” not as something harsh, but as a different emotion. I have put all these thoughts into one box.
Zine.
This is both a concept book and a collection of references. The zine is a collection of references and information about the various phenomena that occur in the mountains and how much impact they have on people's lives, and the ‘power’ of the mountains, which is expressed in ‘12’ pages, covering approximately 12 months of the year.
Photographs.
I have made a collage of photographs I have taken of various mountains and cut out from old books, using the photographic printing and development method. I wanted to reproduce the “moss” that is always present in every mountain, so I used acrylic paint glitter to express moss. The colour base is laid out based on the concept of YMO's music. I see sound as colour, so this time I created the work with reference to the techno music and opportunity sounds created by YMO.
Bandana.
I often greet climbers with bandanas when I pass them on my hikes. I was inspired by them and printed ‘Hiking for Beer’, which is always my hiking theme, on a reflector print.
T-shirt.
The concept behind these two pieces is “hiking technical stuff”.
The technical workings of the mountain are represented by the collaged gear, and the technical elements are printed on the way the volcano moves up to the eruption. The t-shirts were the easiest way to output the keywords “work” and “element”.
Postcards.
These 55 postcards, entitled “55 Days of Mountain Landscapes”, were printed with outlines of the various mountains I had photographed and expressed rain, snow, dryness, fire and various phenomena caused by nature using gel nails, acrylics, sprays and glitter. There are three different line configurations of the mountains, and when multiple pieces are placed side by side, various ridges are completed.
